Gameplay Today - Because You're Always Gaming

In the culture of gaming, there is one thing that both the industry and the gamers who buy the games know – sex sells. That’s one of the reasons video games tend to be packed full of half-naked female characters that posses gravity defying bodies with endowments that make many comic book artists blush.  Sometimes these digital models over-shadow the quality of the games they appear in. In today’s feature, we’re covering the most overrated females in all of gaming. Some of them are obvious, but maybe  a couple will surprise you.

Tifa – Final Fantasy Series
Tifa was the easiest and most likely to appear on this list. She tends to top the “hottest” or “sexiest” lists that litter the web on blogs and gaming sites. We’re not bashing Tifa, or any of the females on this list, but there’s no denying that Tifa is the most overrated Final Fantasy character of all time and clearly one of the most overrated in all of video games.

Samus – Metroid Series
There’s no debating that Samus is a bad chick. She doesn’t back down from a fight and faces some of the toughest aliens ever seen in video game history. But much like the others on this list, we’re basing the “overrating” of this character on her following from fans and in some cases, obsessed gamers. The amount of – let’s say “disturbing” – fan art on the web dedicated to Samus is a sign that the character is thought of more a sexual object than a heroine. It’s bad enough she’s not real to begin with, why do so many Nintendo fans fawn over her?

Lara Croft – Tomb Raider Series
Lara Croft seemed to have lost her luster a long time ago. Since the release of Tomb Raider 2 back on the original Playstation, her gameplay has gone down hill. Despite that, her following and status as an icon in gaming has continued to keep her afloat. There are two other things that have helped her float as well - her “digital endowments”. Eidos has already tried one reboot and even recently released a trilogy exclusively on the PS3 in hopes of keeping her relevant to gamers until the next reboot hits. Regardless of her games, and partially because of them, we consider Lara Croft one of the most overrated women in gaming.

Kasumi – Dead or Alive Series
We get it, they bounce and jiggle. The saddest thing about Kasumi making this list is that she’s actually a great fighter in the Dead or Alive series. All the fighters are because the DoA fighting series is one of the most balanced and fun franchises to execute reversals and have a genuinely fun time fighting. Unfortunately, Tecmo used Kasumi (and the other DoA girls’) assets to over-shadow the actual gameplay. Of course, Kasumi’s assets could overshadow just about anything if the sun’s in the right spot.

Jade Raymond – Ubisoft Producer
If you’re thinking to yourself that “One of these things is not like the other”, then you are completely correct. Jade is real – to a point. While she’s flesh and blood, she’s almost as big a character as the virtual women on this list because of the way Ubisoft had pushed her more than the game she was producing. While basement-dwelling gamers drooled over Jade, male gamers who actually spoke to actual females voiced their disgust with the portrayal and way Jade was displayed. Considering she’s a 7 on a good day, she’s easily one of the most overrated females in gaming.
